Guests are awaited by not just a concert in the usual sense but rather a theatrical performance having room for lyrics, hilarity and philosophical musings.
A winner of All-Russia and international contests, winner of Provincial Grant in Culture and Art, the folk instrument ensemble under Samara State Philharmonics the ‘Volga-Folk-Band’ is a team of young musicians playing folk instruments, winners of All-Russia and international contests, representing the leading national schools of performing art.
The singularity of the team, beside the brilliant orchestration and high quality sound, lies in diversity of forms of mutual music-making, and also in the possibility of “carving” out of it small ensembles, for instance the ‘Bala Like’ folk project (the duet of electric balalaikas). The performers determine the style they work in as ‘modern folk’. At the bottom of their art, traditional folklore music lies but the musicians introduce modern rhythms and melodics into it keeping academism of playing technics.
The founder and director of the ‘Volga-Folk-Band’ is an alumnus of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, winner of All-Russia and international contests Dmitry Butsykov.
